The month of September being tourism month and national theme being Sustainable Tourism, EICT partnered with FTT (Fair Trade Tourism) and invited 25 businesses from the incubator to a FTT workshop which took on the 12 & 13 September 2017, 25 of our business owners attended the FTT workshop. EICT and FTT selected the area of Dinokeng due to its high level of socio-economic and geological similarities to the Pilanesberg region as well as that the host business is fully FTT certified. Experiential training is a model which will be instituted moving forward.
Fair Trade Tourism (FTT) is South Africa’s best-known and highly valued responsible tourism certification programme and is available for accommodation, activities, facilities, food services, attractions and volunteer programmes.
The incubates spent two days at a FTT Certified established. The incubates got to experience true, authentic experience as they got to experience how to work with the communities nearby. Incubates were taken on a game drive as well as visited the local township businesses that are working closely with Kwalata Game Reserve. The businesses experienced that it is not about individuals but working as a collective to achieve a common goal of selling their area as a tourism destination. The community of Hammanskraal ensured the incubates experience traditional dancing, local tavern, local nursery and traditional food.
